Sept. 27,2016- Week 4

Hey Fam!!!
Here are my spiritual thoughts to you all for this week, written exclusively for those that I love:

D and C 29:34 -- its about how every law that God has given us is spiritual. And it kind of blew my mind.

Also the quote by the first prophet of these latter days, Joseph smith, when he said, "if we are faithful, all of our losses will be made up." Just take a second and imagine the magnitude of that quote!

Also, I discovered a scripture that helps with how to better talk to diehard christians of other faiths about the relationship between the bible, and the legitimacy of the book of mormon. It's in Matthew 18:16. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

The Bible is not without the Book of Mormon, neither the Book of Mormon without the Bible. It's pretty interesting. Kind of Like how James 1:5 was a scripture meant just for Joseph. God has a plan in every aspect of His work, and every aspect of our lives. And although maybe we can't see how we fit in yet, we aren't an unsolvable puzzle pieces. God made us and He knows just what we need. And He already has it all figured out, for he knows what we have need of even before we ever ask. (Read the beatitudes in Matthew)

Today I'm gonna finish up my spiritual thought with a quote by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, from his talk, Tomorrow the Lord will do Wonders among you:

My brothers and sisters, the first great commandment of all eternity is to love Godwith alof our heart, might, mind, and strength—that’s the first great commandment. But the firsgreat truth of all eternity is that God loves us with all of His heart, might, mind, and strength. That love is the foundation stone of eternity, anit should be the foundation stone of our daily life. Indeeit is only with that reassurance burning in our soul that we can have the confidence to keep trying to improve, keep seeking forgiveness for our sins, and keep extending that grace to our neighbor.

And also the calming reassurance that, so long as I remember which way I face, "He won't let me fail." -Refiner's fire video Mormon Message

Visit mentalhealth.lds.org, and watch some of the videos. Mom, you will especially like them I think.

Also, we got to hear a talk by Elder Cook on Sunday, and he told me exactly what I needed to hear, which was awesome. In the last few lines of the talk he blessed us missionaries not only to be able to get through anything, but to know that we would be able to. It was a beam of light in the darkness for me, and I will forever be grateful for that blessing. I know that he is called of God.

I also was reminded by that talk by Elder Anderson about "You don't know everything, but you know enough" that talk is perfect for me because I hardly feel adequate by myself. And its true. As to my strength, I am weak. I am less than the dust of the earth when i am alone. But when I am with the "strength of my God," as Ammon so beautifully describes it, I know that I need not fear. Ever. Because it's all going to be okay. And it will all work out for the Good.

I have a new favorite lds hymn. "Be Still my Soul." Next time you listen to it, I want you to pay attention to the lyrics. It is really powerful.

Also, this work we committed our first TRC investigator (teaching recent converts) to baptism. It was so tough, BUT IT WAS AWESOME. I can't wait to get out into the field!!!!! The spirit was so strong, and I could feel that the love of Heavenly Father was there.

More and more I learning that the spirit of the Law is absolutely key to survival here. And Ive realized that with Christ it was the spirit of the law as well. He did what He was able to do, and when He had done that, He didn't worry about it. it reminds me of the talk

I cant think of the namne of it now and its really bugging me beacuse I searched for it for like ten minutes but the main gist of it is this: just as we are not authorized to do less than what we have been commanded, we are not authorized to do more. it is wrong to do more a man shall not run faster than he has strength. Christ said, “But whoso among you shall do more or less than these are not built upon my rock, but are built upon a sandy foundation; and when the rain descends, and the floods come, and the winds blow, and beat upon them, they shall fall.”

Don't do more than you are able. Just trust in God and give Him your whole soul, and He will take care of the rest!

I have felt the presence of angels on both sides of the veil helping me in this work, (one of them being my companion) and I have to say, being a missionary is life changing for me. I can already tell you I will never forget this experience. And far from wanting to go home, I am just so excited to take part in serving with my brothers and sisters of the faith in the work of the Lord. This is one of the singular most refining, testimony building, and I think equally important habit building experiences. For without constant deliberate righteous actions, without constantly drawing on the strength of the scriptures, having real sincere talks with Heavenly Father in prayer every single night, and without constantly constantly constantly knowing which way we face, and acting in the way we know we should we will never be able to know to happiness. We will never find true peace. That is the key to success in this work, and in this life.
